RADICALS
The Radicals are the basic ideocalligraphs. They indicate simply what they represent. The moon ideocalligraph looks like a moon and that is its meaning. And yet the proximity of other radicals may modify that meaning and its significance. Man looks like man and is so. The position of arms or legs may likewise modify his meaning or function - standing, walking, sitting, squatting, pointing, offering, gesturing with arms and hands. However, the basic meaning of a radical always remains central in any context. It is along with their neighbours that the ideocalligraphs come to life and communicate - clearly or by implication. The examples of their use will demonstrate their versatility.
